Mtskheta, Gori, Uplistsikhe<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Mtskheta<\/b> is one of the oldest towns in the world founded in the middle of the 1st millennium B.C. It is the former capital of Georgia, and one of the most visited places throughout the years. It was the first town to adopt Christianity in 4th Century. The whole town is under UNESCO <\/b><\/u>cover from 1994<\/b>.<\/p>

The first place we’ll visit is Jvari <\/b>Monastery, built on the top of the cliff, overlooking the confluence of two Rivers and Mtskheta holy town. The word Jvari <\/b>means “cross” and refers to the large wooden cross erected after spreading Christianity in this region. It gives you an amazing 360\u00b0<\/strong> degrees panoramic view over Mtskheta and Svetickhoveli<\/strong> Cathedral, confluence of two rivers, Zedazeni <\/b>mountain and Tbilisi.<\/p>

The second highlight of the tour is Svetitskhoveli<\/strong> Cathedral, which is a masterpiece of Georgian architecture and one of the most significant pieces of Christianity, mentioned in numerous historical books and literature. The first church was built in the 4th<\/strong> century on the same spot, the robe of Jesus Christ was buried.<\/p>

You’ll have chance to have lunch and stroll around the Mtskheta market after visiting Svetitskhoveli<\/strong> Cathedral. After Mtskheta, you’ll head to central Georgia and visit city named Gori.<\/span><\/p>

This city was an important military stronghold in the Middle Ages and maintains a strategic importance due to its location on the principal highway connecting eastern and western parts of Georgia. Today it is best known due to the Stalin’s museum, which was built in 1956<\/strong> after the death of Stalin. You’ll have opportunity to visit this museum and have a look on a house where he was born.<\/p>

The last highlight of the tour is rock-hewn town, called Uplistsikhe<\/strong>. The city emerged at the end of the II \u2014 the beginning of 1st millennium BC and served as a reliable shelter from invaders. Uplistsikhe is a multi-layered archaeological site, one of the most important monuments of the Georgia\u2019s cultural heritage.<\/p>
